Sources & methodology This is an illustrative collection, not a verified historical database. The original HTML describes its book events as a hand-curated sample with representative approximations for dates and places. Those records are preserved here; this redesign does not independently validate them.
Connections trace successive records for the same book . Color indicates the reason assigned in the sample; it does not endorse that reason. Cover art comes from Open Library and identifies the linked edition, not necessarily the edition involved in a historical event. Colored outlines identify the reason cited. Illustrated markers appear when an image is unavailable or cover art is switched off. Positions within a theme are separated for legibility.
Filters match non-publication events. The complete path of a matching book stays visible for context; markers outside your filters are faded. Publication dates before 1920 sit at the left boundary. Multiple events in the same year share a date position.
The original file names PEN America and the American Library Association as intended source organizations. This build has no live connection to either. Record-level citations and verified dates are needed before using this collection as research.
Counts describe this sample only. A final event is not a book’s present-day status, and does not establish a nationwide ban.
Cover art & buying books Edition identifiers are matched to new-copy listings. Open Library is the source of the covers embedded in this file; covers display offline without network requests. Jackets can vary between printings of the same ISBN.
We prioritize a verified author shop, then an author-owned affiliate link, then Bookshop.org. No author-owned shop or author-affiliate link was verified for this selection, so the purchase buttons currently use Bookshop.org or a direct independent bookstore listing matched to the cover edition. Bookshop.org purchases support independent bookstores ; they do not automatically earn the author an extra affiliate commission. The project receives no affiliate commission from these links.
Where available, a separate link opens the author’s own book page or buying options. An author-linked publisher store is labeled as a publisher, not an author shop. Prices, stock and shipping are shown at the destination.
